Christie Serves Up Books at Reading Restaurant (April, 2008)
Ajalet Hernandez reads a selection to her mom, Karina, at the annual Christie Elementary Reading Restaurant Thursday morning. The cafeteria was decorated with place mats and centerpieces. The first grade teachers acted as waiters, while parents were presented with a "menu" of items their children could read for them. The event was well attended by parents and didn't miss a beat when the storms of the early morning knocked out power to the school. Luckily, the cafeteria had enough natural light to let the event go forward. Power was restored by 10 a.m.
