Frisco Retired teachers Enjoy Book Review (April, 2008)

Catherine FowlerCatherine Fowler, who was “the librarian” at  Frisco elementary school libraries for years and retired as Coordinator of Library Services for the District, had her former friends and coworkers giggling as she grasped her magnolias and stood before the tulle-bedecked lectern to review Somebody Is Going to Die if Lilly Beth Doesn’t Catch that Bouquet: The Official Southern Ladies Guide to Hosting the Perfect Wedding by Gayden Metcalfe and Charlotte Hays..

Fowler adopted a slightly delta-inspired Southern accent to recount the many do’s and don’ts of a “Southern Wedding” and to mourn the decline of staples of small-town life such as the “wedding write-up” in the newspapers and ornate displays of the wedding gifts at the bride’s home.

Fowler did not so much review as re-enact the chapters of the book, something she has always been known for in FISD. The review caused many of the former teachers recall other events and skits that they had participated in with Fowler.

The Frisco Retired Teachers Association is open to all retired teachers, not just FISD retired teachers. The group meets monthly in the Training Room at the Maple Street Complex, 6928 Maple Street.
