FISD Bus Mechanics Win Trophies at State Competition (April, 2008)

Two Frisco Independent School District bus mechanics, Gary Hansen and Kevin Vollweiler, both performed well in a Texas Association of School Bus Technicians competition in San Antonio recently.

Hansen placed 1st in diagnostics and will go on to represent FISD and Texas as he competes at the national level in Tulsa in September.  Vollweiler placed 3rd in Inspections.

Transportation Director, Karen Sadler reports, that of the seven mechanics the district employs, five are ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certified, three are Master Mechanics and two are in the process of seeking the rank of Master Mechanic. All seven mechanics are TASBT certified.  Of the 1700 nationwide ASE Master School Bus Technicians, FISD is proud to employ three of them.

The District operates 160 buses and 96 support vehicles for district transportation and the mechanics that keep them going are a vital part of FISD’s success.
